GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF A CERVICO-FACIAL FACELIFT

What is a cervico-facial facelift?
It is the surgical procedure that treats the negative effects of time on the face, from the temples to the jowls, and on the neck.
Why have a face and neck lift?
As we age, skin becomes less firm and loses elasticity. Jowls and neck bands appear, and nasolabial folds, bitterness folds and cheek wrinkles become more visible, making patients look older and more tired.
How does a neck and face lift work?
A neck and face lift doesn’t affect the structure or the aspect of the face. On the contrary, the restoration of the anatomical structures of the face and neck (fat, skin, muscle) enables the patient to regain a younger version of himself without modifying his expression. The face is rejuvenated in a natural way. The skin is not tight, the face is not frozen as could be seen years ago.
The underlying muscles are uplifted. The skin is then redraped and gently tightened on the facial muscles to restore a natural looking definition and contour.
This double treatment produces a very natural result (the skin is not too tight due to the uplifted muscles) and the recovery is often easier.
The excess of fat deposits may be removed with liposuction.
Conversely, loss of fat may be treated with a lipofilling. It repositions fat deposits and then rejuvenates and improves the quality of the skin and restores a more attractive appearance.
PRINCIPLES OF A FACE AND NECK LIFT
What is the goal of a face and neck lift?
The goal of a face and neck lift is to correct the sagging of the skin but also of the muscles of the face (oval, jowls, temples, eyebrows and cheeks) and of the neck and also to treat loss of excess of fat. It restores a more youthful and natural rejuvenated appearance to the face.
THE STEPS OF THE INTERVENTION
BEFORE A CERVICO FACIAL FACELIFT SURGERY:
- Two preoperative consultations with a board-certified plastic surgeon will be conducted before a neck and face lift surgery as well as a consultation with an anesthetist.
- Before and after comparison photographs will be taken.
- A compression chin strap will be prescribed
- The preoperative instructions are as follow:
- Quit smoking a minimum of one month before the surgery to one month after the surgery to reduce any complications and avoid necrosis risk.
- Discontinue any anti-platelet or blood-thinning medication 2 weeks before the surgery.
- Stop birth control pill one month before to avoid increased risk of thromboembolism.
CERVICO FACIAL FACELIFT SURGERY:
- A Cervico Facial Facelift surgery is performed under general anesthesia.
- The surgery takes 2 to 4 hours depending on the technique and on other combined procedures.
- A mini lift lasts 1 hour and a half and is performed under local anesthesia.
- Dr Vincent Nguyen performs the surgery on both sides himself and uses the newest available techniques.
The final result is visible after 3 months but the improvement is immediately obvious. As the face will continue to age naturally overtime, it is sometimes necessary to maintain the result with esthetic medicine treatments ( peeling, Hyaluronic Acid or Botox injections, laser, …)
AFTER CERVICO FACIAL FACELIFT SURGERY:
- Recovery is easy and faster for a mini face lift than for a complete cervico facial
- A cervico facial facelift surgery is not a painful surgery and only light analgesics will be prescribed.
- Patients may leave the clinic the following day or the same day if the facelift is done as an outpatient procedure.
- Swelling and bruising will appear the following days.
- You may resume regular social activities after 5 to 15 days.
- No nursing care is required.
- You may take a shower the next day but no bath before a month.
- Avoid sun on the scars for a year.
- Follow-up appointments with Dr Vincent Nguyen will be scheduled 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year after the surgery.

- As a cervico facial facelift is an esthetic procedure, it is not covered by Social Security or Health Insurance Company.

FACE AND NECK LIFT FAQs
What parts of the face are not treated with a face and neck lift?
Expression lines, crow’s feet wrinkles, and perioral wrinkles (around the mouth) are not treated with a cervico-facial facelift. Deep wrinkles are smoothed but don’t disappear totally.
Where are the scars after a neck and face lift?
The incisions are made along the hairline, hidden in the hair (at the temples and in the lower scalp) and around the ears. (see picture)
Thus, the scar is quite totally concealed.
When is the right time for a neck and facelift?
A cervicofacial facelift is intended for everyone wishing to get rid of aging signs of the face (jowls, sagging of the skin of the face and neck, …).
May other procedures be combined with a cervicofacial facelift?
Many other procedures may be combined with a face and neck lift: eyelid lift (blepharoplasty), eyebrow sagging and crow’s feet wrinkles (temporal face lift) and a brow lift to improve the appearance of the forehead.
It may also be completed with other anti-aging rejuvenation techniques (laserbrasion, dermabrasion, peeling, injections of Hyaluronic acid or Botox or PRP).
It may be associated with a neck liposuction and/or a face lipofilling to restore the oval of the face.
Lipofilling is essential to obtain a naturally rejuvenated face, as, often with age, the loss of facial fat gives a tired and emaciated appearance making patients look older. Fat gives volume and improves the skin quality resulting in a radiant face.

What are the alternatives to a cervicofacial facelift?
A minilift or mini face lift is a fast correction as only the skin is gently tightened. It may be done under local anesthesia with a very fast recovery. (see information sheet).
A face lipofilling doesn’t tighten the skin but fills in the hollow areas of the face that tend to accentuate the natural aging process. It makes the face radiant as it plumps it naturally and permanently. (see information sheet).
Can I have a second cervico facial facelift later if needed?
It is not unusual for patients who had a facelift to request another one at a later date.
It may be another cervico facial facelift or a minilift if only the skin needs to be addressed.
